Thomas Kapusta is a director and producer committed to early-career artists, nontraditional performers and collaborations, and connecting new audiences to arts experiences.
Tom is the co-founder and Artistic Director of Corkscrew Theater Festival, a summer presentation of new work created in innovative collaborative models. Now in its fourth year, Tom has overseen the development and production of eighteen world premieres, alongside a reading series of twelve new plays meeting audiences for the first time. Of Corkscrew, Laura Collins-Hughes wrote in the New York Times, “In the risk-taking venture that is summer festival-going, encountering talent you want to see more of is a worthy payoff.”
Tom has directed dozens of plays, including Ibsen’s The Lady from the Sea at 133rd Street Performing Arts, Shakespeare’s Othello at the Alchemical Theater Laboratory, and Matthew McShane’s Beware of Dog at Wildeheart Loft. Tom served as assistant director for the world premiere of Linda Alper and Penny Metropulos’ adaptation of Great Expectations at Oregon Shakespeare Festival in 2016. He directed his adaptation of Twelfth Night at Corkscrew Theater Festival in 2019.
For seven years, Tom served as chief operations officer for Ricochet Group LLC, a boutique consulting firm specializing in nonprofit arts institutions, higher education, and commercial theater. He holds a BA in History from Columbia University, and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Arts Administration from the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences at Baruch College. He serves as Assistant Secretary-Treasurer of Royal Shakespeare Company America.
